Rescheduling appointments

I'm confused about expressing an appointment.

Could you let me know which ones you would/would not say in the following?

Can I ___ my appointment ___ next weekend?

1. change, to
2. change, for
3. reschedule, to
4. reschedule, for
5. move, to
6. move, for

They don't all mean the same thing.

• 1, 3 and 5 (using to) mean you want the appointment to be next weekend.
• 2, 4 and 6 (using for) mean the appointment is currently next weekend.

But it doesn't matter much which verb you use.

There's another ambiguity too – some people take "next weekend" to mean the same as "this weekend", whereas others take it to mean "the weekend after this weekend".

It's better to avoid using the ambiguous "next weekend" and say something like:

Can I change my appointment on [date] to [date]?
Can I put my appointment back one week?

Adding to the ambiguity is that the OP says "...to next weekend". Had it been "...to the next weekend" it would have been clearer that they want to reschedule by one week.
